Campaign Finance "Reforms" Merely a Consolidation of Power

Republican Gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrzejewski today called proposed campaign finance reforms for what they are: a means for establishment politicians to solidify their grasp on power.
Proposed reforms being discussed in Springfield include instituting caps on donations to candidates of $10,000 per year and donations to committees or political action committees of $20,000 per year.  However transfers between campaigns are unlimited.

"The General Assembly is already controlled by the so-called 'Four Tops', the four legislative leaders.  Given how little resistance has been put up by entrenched Republican leadership in the Legislature, it is fairer to say that the state is controlled by the two majority leaders of the General Assembly," Andrzejewski stated.

Andrzejewski, who launched his campaign for Governor in March, continued, "I find it remarkable that these caps will be instituted on every new candidate for office, however, the people who have presided over corruption, waste and inefficiency will be able to use their amassed war chests to hang on to their positions of power. What this means is that while everyday citizens can only give $10,000, entrenched special interests and unaccountable party bosses are unlimited in their ability to transfer funds. Who do you think candidates will be beholden to?"

As envisioned, the proposed reforms would allow for unlimited transfers between campaigns - keeping candidates beholden to party bosses and insiders as opposed to the people they are supposed to represent.

Andrzejewski concluded, "Campaign finance reform is a well-intentioned issue, but as with anything the Democrats in Springfield touch, these proposed changes are designed to keep Democrats in the positions of power in Illinois."
